I recently read a definition of Mercy in a book I was reading. According to a 1828 dictionary, Mercy is: that benevolence, mildness, or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves. It definitely made me think of Mercy differently.
This definition came at a time when I needed to forgive someone who hadn't said sorry. I realized that I was waiting to hear sorry before I completely let go and forgave. The problem: this person was never going to say sorry. So, having mercy has helped me realize that I can forgive and love without hearing sorry; I can give someone the benefit of the doubt and I can look past human frailties because I hope that Jesus is doing the same for me in all of my weaknesses.
