I recently read an article that talked about how God has given us the gift of agency and choice. He has given us the gift of agency out of love and values it, even when we are making choices that lead us to undesirable consequences. The article says, "There is danger in saying, 'Everything happens for a reason' or 'it was all part of the plan,' because that could imply that everything that happens is according to God's will" (Newell, Lloyd D. "Instruments or Agents?" Ensign April 2019). We create our own destiny. We are learning to be like God by using our agency to make choices, create, and learn from our mistakes. The article goes on to say, "This does not mean, however, that God is distant, distracted, or uncaring. In fact, it is truly amazing how much our Father chooses to become involved in the small and simple moments of the lives of His children. Those who are observant can see God's hand in their lives in very personal customized ways. When He does intervene, He does so within the framework of our agency." Wow! "When God does intervene, He does so within the framework of our agency." This is such a powerful statement. How often do we put limits on God because of the way we are thinking and feeling? When we limit God, then we build a small framework for Him to work within. We choose our thoughts and our emotions. We can learn to see things with hope, love, gratitude and learn to forgive and overcome our fears and doubts by putting our faith and hope in Christ. We can look to others who have experienced success, healing, miracles, and joy and know that we too can achieve those things, but only with the help of a loving Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. When we stop putting limits on God, we are not only showing faith, but we are becoming solution-minded and miracle-believing people--we are believing and trusting in greater things, and that is positive thinking! When we practice positive thinking and faith-fueled thoughts, we are building a larger framework for God to work within, and that is when He can grant us greater healing, peace, light, and miracles! When we include God in our positive thinking, then YES, faith is the same thing as positive thinking!
